Yummy in your tummy!

Kelly Rossiter

I'm a lazy summer cook. I tend to make salads or quick pastas or I toss something on the barbeque. I'm really more interested in being outside during the summer, sitting and reading. Autumn is here and that means crisp days and turning leaves and lots of squash and apples at the farmers' market. But something about cooler weather and shorter days makes me want to get back to serious cooking. I start thinking about stews and soups, or dishes with sauces and gravies.

There are still plenty of wonderful vegetables available before we start heading into winter root vegetable territory. You might even find the occasional heirloom tomato still. I'm looking forward to cooking with pumpkins and cranberries and apples over the next couple of weeks and I'm hoping chestnuts will be arriving at the market soon.
