INGREDIENTS
| 1 | cup brown sugar, divided |
| 1 | tablespoon cornstarch |
| 1 | teaspoon ground cinnamon |
| 1/2 | teaspoon ground ginger |
| 1/4 | teaspoon ground nutmeg |
| 5 | to 6 cups cubed peeled tart apples |
| 1 | cup fresh or frozen cranberries or 1/2 cup dried cranberries |
| 1 | teaspoon freshly grated orange peel |
| 1/2 | cup buttermilk baking mix |
| 1/2 | cup uncooked oats |
| 1/2 | cup coarsley chopped walnuts |
| 1/4 | teaspoon salt |
| 1/4 | cup (1/2 stick) butter |
| Vanilla ice cream (optional) | |
PREPARATION:
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease shallow 2-quart baking dish.
- Combine 1/2 cup brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg in large bowl. Add apples, cranberries and orange peel; toss to mix well. Spoon into prepared dish.
- Combine baking mix, oats, nuts, remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar and salt in medium bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over apple mixture.
- Bake 50 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve warm with ice cream.
