The holiday season is also the season of hostess gifts and if you're like me you aim to please. When a friend goes through the trouble of having you over, a hostess gift is a thoughtful and in this case, delicious way of saying thank you.

I was searching around and found this DIY gift idea on Style Me Pretty. You could use most any quick bread for this like banana, pumpkin, or zucchini depending on what you have on hand and what's in season.

INGREDIENTS

What You'll Need
Quick bread
2 medium-sized oven-friendly mugs or terra cotta
flower pots
Wax paper or plastic wrap
Thoughtful tag or ribbon
Banana Quick Bread
3 very ripe bananas
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/4 cup organic unbleached flour
1 tsp sea salt
1/2 cup broken walnuts

PREPARATION:

Method

  1. Start by mashing the bananas in a separate bowl.
  2. Cream together butter, sugar, and eggs for about five minutes. Add bananas and beat well. Combine the dry ingredients in a separate bowl and then gradually add into the creamed butter.
  3. Add in nuts and combine.
  4. Separate the batter into two oven-friendly mugs or flower pots. Make sure anything you use is eatable and safe. Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 55 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Let cool on a wire rack.
  6. Cut a square of plastic wrap or wax paper and top the mug. Add pretty tag as well like the snow flake pictured. Make your own using a stencil and silver poster paper.
