Brats in Beer

Brats in Beer
Cook Time: 4 to 5 hours
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Yield: Makes 30 to 36 appetizers
Ingredients:
1-1/2
pounds bratwurst (about 5 or 6 links)
1
bottle (12 ounces) amber ale
1
medium onion, thinly sliced
2
tablespoons packed brown sugar
2
tablespoons red wine or cider vinegar
Spicy brown mustard
Cocktail rye bread
Preparation:
1.
Combine bratwurst, ale, onion, brown sugar and vinegar in slow cooker. Cover; cook on LOW 4 to 5 hours.
2.
Remove bratwurst and onion slices from juices in slow cooker. Cut bratwurst into 1/2-inch-thick slices. For mini open-faced sandwiches, spread mustard on cocktail rye bread. Top with bratwurst slices and cooked onion, if desired.
Tip:
Choose a light-tasting beer for cooking brats. Hearty ales might leave the meat tasting slightly bitter.
