Buttercream Frosting

YIELD Makes about 1-1/2 cups frosting


3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
3 to 4 tablespoons milk, divided
1/2 teaspoon vanilla


  1. Combine powdered sugar, butter, 2 tablespoons milk and vanilla in large bowl. Beat with electric mixer at low speed until blended. Beat at high speed until light and fluffy, adding more milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, as needed for good spreading consistency.
