Frosting & Icing are sweet, sugary mixtures that can fill or cover cakes and other desserts. They are essentially the same thing, and cooks in different kitchens use the two terms interchangeably.

Buttercream Frosting

Yield: Makes about 3-1/2 cups
Ingredients:
6
cups powdered sugar, sifted and divided

3/4
cup butter, softened

1/4
cup shortening

6
to 8 tablespoons milk, divided

1
teaspoon vanilla



Preparation:
1.
Combine 3 cups powdered sugar, butter, shortening, 4 tablespoons milk and vanilla in large bowl. Beat with electric mixer until smooth. Add remaining powdered sugar; beat until light and fluffy, adding more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, as needed for good spreading consistency.
