INGREDIENTS

Butter-flavored nonstick cooking spray
1 package (8 ounces) reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
1 cup low-fat (1%) cottage cheese
1/2 cup sugar, divided
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 can (16-1/2 ounces) dark sweet pitted cherries, rinsed and drained
8 sheets frozen phyllo dough, thawed
1 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

PREPARATION:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray baking sheet with cooking spray; set aside.
  2. Combine cream cheese, cottage cheese, 1/4 cup sugar and vanilla in medium bowl with electric mixer. Beat at medium speed until well blended. Stir in cherries.
  3. Spray 1 phyllo dough sheet with cooking spray; fold sheet lengthwise in half to form rectangle. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons bread crumbs. Drop 1/3-cupful cheese mixture onto upper left corner of sheet. Fold right corner over mixture to form triangle. Continue folding turnover like a flag, making triangular packet with each turn. Repeat with remaining ingredients. Place turnovers on prepared baking sheet. Combine remaining 1/4 cup sugar with cinnamon. Sprinkle turnovers with sugar mixture.
  4. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until turnovers are crisp and golden brown. Serve warm or cold.
