Breaking news from Capitol Hill: Congressmen Bobby Rush (D-IL) and Henry Waxman (D-CA) have just introduced the Toxic Chemicals Safety Act of 2010 (H.R.5820).
That means we've got bills in both the House and the Senate that would attempt to overhaul the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 — which, public health advocates say, doesn't do a whit of good when it comes to actually controlling the toxic substances we're exposed to every day. We're talking about formaldehyde in your sofa, flame retardants on your mattress, polyvinyl chloride in your shower curtain, and thousands of potentially toxic chemicals in your cosmetics.
