Crock of Spice for Apple Cider

Ingredients:

cinnamon sticks, broken into small pieces

1/4
cup whole cloves

1/4
cup allspice berries

1/4
cup juniper berries

1
tablespoon dried orange peel, chopped

1
tablespoon dried lemon peel, chopped

1
teaspoon ground nutmeg



 
Preparation:

Combine all ingredients in small bowl until well blended. Spoon into airtight container or decorative glass jar with tight-fitting lid; cover. To prepare spiced cider, measure 1 heaping teaspoon spice mixture for each mug of cider into large saucepan. Simmer cider with spices for 5 minutes. Strain before serving.


Variation Pack into small bags you have made from Christmas fabrics or into muslin bouquet garni bags available at kitchen or specialty stores. Use like tea bags to flavor mugs of hot cider or mulled wine. Gift Tip Put mixture in crock or attractive container and give with jug of country apple cider from your favorite farm stand or market.
