Like your salmon with a side of suds? Apparently some brave bloggers over at Terrapass do.

During the pre-holiday rush, they decided to squeeze in an omega-healthy dinner by poaching their salmon in the dishwasher.

The daring duo didn't only save time; they spared carbon emissions that would have otherwise been emitted had they seared their salmon stovetop. By filing their salmon snuggly away between a full load of dishwasher-safe mugs and dishes, they tapped in on the energy that would be used anyway to clean their cutlery and other kitchenware.

I have to proudly admit that I've too doubled-up on appliances, defrosting a dish of frozen blueberries in the toaster oven next to my toast. Or warming up my cat's food on top of the coffee maker as I brew my morning cup of Joe. But poaching my salmon in the dishwasher?

I suppose if I ever upgrade from the lowly rank of dishpan hands to join that of dishwasher-hood, I might be tempted to try it. Would you ever cook something in the dishwasher? Let us know in the comments below!

Dishwasher Poached Salmon

1) Place salmon on small sheet of foil

2) Drizzle 1 TB of olive oil, juice of half a lemon, and salt & pepper onto fish

3) Wrap up tightly in foil and place packet in top rack of a full dishwasher

4) Add detergent, close door, and push start

5) When cycle is complete (about 1 hour), open dishwasher, retrieve packet, unwrap, and serve

We suggest using wild-caught salmon (and please, eat it sparingly and non-toxic detergent for a greener, cleaner (pun-intended) meal.

Enjoy!
