Bruce Friedrich has been a progressive activist for more than 20 years and is currently Vice President for Policy at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Yes, PETA...the largest animal rights organization on earth, with more than 2 million members and supporters. Before joining PETA in 1996, for six years Bruce ran a soup kitchen and shelter for homeless families in Washington, D.C. He also blogs at Huffington Post; co-authored (with Matt Ball) The Animal Activist's Handbook; and has been known to read a book or two or two hundred (see below).
On the topic of PETA's often-controversial public image, Bruce declares:
"Our goal is to be effective; we're not trying to win popularity contests."
