According to a study reported on the Daily Mail, this is exactly the case.

In fact, 53 percent of people feel upset and 40 percent of people feel lonely when deprived of the internet. The study included 1,000 participants who were asked to give up technology for a period of 24 hours and then quizzed on their feelings.
