French Toast with Warm Apples

INGREDIENTS
| 4 | egg whites |
| 2 | large eggs |
| 3 | tablespoons fat-free (skim) milk |
| 3 | tablespoons sugar substitute,* divided |
| 1/2 | teaspoon vanilla, divided |
| 1/8 | teaspoon ground nutmeg |
| 5 | ounces Italian bread, cut diagonally into 4 slices |
| Nonstick Cooking Spray | |
| 2 | teaspoons canola oil |
| 1 | cup sliced unpeeled Granny Smith apples |
| 2 | tablespoons water |
| 1 | tablespoon reduced-fat margarine |
| 4 | teaspoons sugar-free pancake syrup |
PREPARATION:
- Combine egg whites, eggs, milk, 2 tablespoons sugar substitute, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla and nutmeg in 13x9-inch baking dish; stir with fork until well blended. Add bread slices; turn several times to coat evenly.
- Coat medium nonstick skillet with cooking spray. Add oil; heat over medium heat until hot. Tilt skillet to coat with oil. Add bread slices; cook 3 minutes. Turn; cook 3 minutes longer or until golden.
- Meanwhile, add apples, water and remaining 1 tablespoon sugar substitute to small skillet. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 2 minutes or until apples are just crisp-tender. Remove from heat; add margarine and 1/4 teaspoon remaining vanilla, stirring until margarine is melted.
- Top each bread slice with 1 teaspoon syrup and equal amount of apple mixture.
