According to a post on the San Francisco Chronicle, the FTC and the FDA are telling POM Wonderful, to halt their health claims. The company has been spreading the word about this miracle elixir for years, claiming it cures erectile dysfunction, cancer, and heart disease to name just a few.

According to the post, FTC regulators say the company deceptively hypes health claims of reducing blood pressure, prostate cancer, erectile dysfunction, heart disease, and high cholesterol. It's these claims that supposedly warrant the product's high price of $4 to $6 for a 16-ounce bottle.

Additionally, there's currently a class action suit against the company regarding the false claims. The lawsuit in Florida state court alleges that POM Wonderful misled consumers with at least six different health claims: alleviating atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, prostate cancer, erectile function, cardiovascular disease, cholesterol levels, and other age-related medical conditions.

While many are questioning the claims of POM Wonderful, don't be fooled, pomegranates themselves are full of health benefits, and you don't need to buy some elixir that burned tons of energy in manufacturing and refrigeration just to enjoy the benefits. It all comes back to whole foods that are found locally.

Consider juicing your own pomegranates or just eating them. Pomegranates are loaded with health benefits and the best part is they're coming into season and available right in your area. Pomegranates are chalked full of antioxidants, three times more than green tea. The miracle fruit is also high in Vitamin C, fiber, iron, potassium, folic acid, and calcium.
