Ingredients

3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 cup dark brown sugar (packed)
1/2 lb butter (room temperature)
1 cup buttermilk
3/4 cups molasses
3/4 lb soft cream cheese
1/2 cup soft butter
7 cups confectioner sugar

Preparation

  1. Sift flour and salt in large bowl. Combine eggs and brown sugar in large bowl and mix with whip attachment for 1 minute.
  2. Add soft butter and mix 1 minute. Add buttermilk and molasses and mix briefly. Add dry ingredients and mix until blended together. Pour into greased 10 inch cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 1 hour.
  3. Beat cream cheese and butter together until blended. Add vanilla and mix briefly. Add sugar one cup at a time until well blended.
