INGREDIENTS
| 1/2 | cup butter, softened |
| 1/2 | cup packed brown sugar |
| 1/3 | cup water |
| 1/3 | cup molasses |
| 1 | egg |
| 4 | cups all-purpose flour |
| 2 | teaspoons baking soda |
| 1 | teaspoon ground ginger |
| 1/2 | teaspoon ground allspice |
| 1/2 | teaspoon ground cinnamon |
| 1/2 | teaspoon ground cloves |
| White or colored frostings | |
PREPARATION:
- Beat butter and brown sugar in large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed until creamy. Add water, molasses and egg; beat until blended. Add flour, baking soda, ginger, allspice, cinnamon and cloves; beat until well blended. Wrap dough tightly with plastic wrap; refrigerate about 2 hours or until firm.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease cookie sheets. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface with lightly floured rolling pin to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter. Place cutouts 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets.
- Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until set. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. Decorate with frostings as desired. Store in airtight containers.
