Making homemade baking powder is simple and takes only a few minutes, but since baking powder isn't really expensive why would you want to do it?

Well, there are a couple of reasons. The best reason is that you can control exactly what goes into your baking powder. There are no worries that there is some contaminate in there, or that your body will have to process aluminum or genetically modified corn products. There is also the satisfaction of just knowing that you can do it and it is one less thing you have to run to the store for!

How to Make Homemade Baking Powdememade Baking Powder

Be sure that everything you use is completely dry and the container that you are using to store it in is clean and dry as well.

Ingredients

-

Mix the ingredients together in a clean, dry jar that has a lid. A Mason jar works perfectly for this. Keep in a dry dark place. Always shake well before using to help the ingredients blend correctly.

Tips for Using and Storing Baking Powder

Once this baking powder is subjected to damp it will begin working and lose its leavening ability. Here are some tips for using homemade baking powder:

- Use homemade baking powder measure for measure like the commercial variety.

- Store airtight in a cool, dry area.

- Always keep all utensils, measuring spoons, etc. completely dry when working with baking powder.

- Keep it fresh. It should be used within a couple of weeks and definitely no more than four weeks.

- If it clumps just run it through a sifter

- Always use organic cornstarch to avoid GMOs

The cornstarch absorbs moisture and helps the baking powder remain stable when it comes in contact with air. Next time you are ready to whip up some lighter than air biscuits give the homemade baking powder a try.

You'll be hooked.
