INGREDIENTS
| Yogurt Sauce (recipe) | |
| 1 | pound ground beef |
| 2 | tablespoons red wine |
| 1 | tablespoon chopped fresh oregano or 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves |
| 2 | teaspoons ground cumin |
| 1/2 | teaspoon salt |
| Dash ground red pepper | |
| Dash black pepper | |
| 4 | rounds pita bread, halved and split |
| Lettuce | |
| Chopped tomatoes | |
PREPARATION:
- Prepare Yogurt Sauce.
- Soak 4 bamboo skewers in water about 20 minutes. Combine ground beef, wine, oregano, cumin, salt, red pepper and black pepper in medium bowl; mix lightly. Divide mixture into eight equal portions; form each portion into an oval, each about 4 inches long. Cover; chill 30 minutes.
- Preheat grill. Insert skewers lengthwise through centers of ovals, placing 2 on each skewer. Grill over medium heat, covered, 8 to 10 minutes (or, uncovered, 13 to 15 minutes) to medium doneness (160°F), turning once. Fill each pita bread half with equal amounts of lettuce, meat and chopped tomatoes. Serve with Yogurt Sauce.
