Chocolate. As renowned vegan author and activist John Robbins puts it: "The very word conjures feelings of pleasure, sensuality, and the richness of life. The scientific name of the tree from whose beans we make chocolate, likewise bespeaks the depth of feeling human beings have always had for chocolate. It is Theobroma cacao L. The name of the genus, Theobroma, comes from two Greek words: theos, meaning gods, and broma, meaning foods. Thus, literally, 'food of the Gods'."

Less poetically, I guess you should know that the average American eats 10-12 pounds of chocolate a year but it's best to keep the stuff away from Fido. Chocolate can be deadly for dogs because it contains something called "Theobromine," which can be toxic to a dogs central nervous system and cardiac muscles.

Another chocolately fun fact: In Alfred Hitchcock's movie Psycho, they used chocolate syrup to indicate blood in the notorious shower scene.
