Quiz: How Not-Green is Your Gym?
OK, so your gym probably doesn't run on solar power and electricity produced by the exercise bikes you're working out on like the Green Microgym in Portland.
But just how green, or not-green, is your gym? See how it stacks up against the following questions, and make your own conclusion.
Is Any of the Equipment Eco-Powered?
Eco-powr treadmills are specially designed to be energy efficient?they use about a third less energy than standard treadmills. Look for their logo to be showing up more frequently in gyms everywhere.
Is tThere a 'Bring Your Own Towel' Policy?
Some gyms give out towels on demand?then wash each one after a single use. If your gym encourages you to bring your own?which you don't need to wash needlessly and waste energy, you're looking at a greener gym.
Does your Gym Encourage the Selling of Bottled Water?
This likely applies to most gyms?the majority seems to have vending machines that dish them out. But those that don't advocate the wasteful practice of drinking bottled water go a length towards green.
Are There Too Many TV's?
Gyms want to keep their patrons entertained while they work out, sure?but some cardio rooms end up looking more like a TV newsroom. It's a little unnecessary for your hour long workout isn't it? And it's a whole lot of wasted energy.
