February is Heart Month in Canada and it's a good time to take revisit those New Year resolutions that you may or may not have kept and seriously look at your health. The Heart and Stroke Foundation estimates that 8 out of 10 Canadians have at least one risk factor for heart disease. They are:
1. Advancing Age
2. Family history of heart disease
3. Smoking
4. High blood cholesterol
5. Hypertension
6. Type 2 Diabetes
7. Abdominal obesity
8. Physical inactivity
Alas, there isn't much we can do about advancing age or family history, but the other six items are all things that we can attempt to control. Don't wait until you are lying on a hospital gurney to address these issues. It's time to take a good, hard look at your diet and make some changes.
