In an effort to be as health conscious as possible, while still enjoying delicious foods, I'm a big fan of the smoothie. My favorite smoothies are the ones that I make myself. I know exactly what goes in them, they're cheaper that way, and they're quick to make. However, every now and then, I have the urge to grab one while on the go and I always end up asking myself whether I know what the ingredients are or not. It's easy when you're at a place where you can see all of the produce they throw into the blender because they do it in front of you. But what about the places that don't make the smoothies in front of you? Or the ones that have preserved and concentrate fruit? I think it's time we all knew what was really in our smoothies, so I, (gasp!), did some research. If you can't see exactly what is going into your smoothie, it's safe to assume that any of the following things (or combinations of) are in your tasty drink:

- Whole Milk/Yogurt

- Added Sugar

- Concentrate fruit; not fresh

It goes without saying that ordering the chocolate or peanut butter smoothie is just asking for blended dessert. However, if you're under the impression that all of your smoothies are healthy and filled with fresh fruit--think again!

The best solution is to make your own.
