Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is no joke. It happens and I'd go as far as to say it at least moderately happens to me. My interest in going out significantly decreases each winter. What can I say? I prefer life when it isn't gray and cold. Depression certainly isn't healthy or productive and treating seasonal depression as best as you possibly can should be at the top of your priority list if you feel affected by it.

Many self-treatments of the disorder call for increased indoor lighting. You can probably guess how I feel about that. Sure, if increased indoor lighting really does improve your mood that much, I have a hard time arguing it as long as you're using energy efficient light bulbs.

But self-treatment of the disorder doesn't have to involve the increased use of lighting. In fact, there are some relatively simple things you can do to boost your mood if you feel you're suffering, even slightly, from SAD.
