Canada's biggest grocery chain has been making half-hearted attempts to go green and healthy, and produces an "Insider's Report" with all of their house brand products labeled "President's Choice."
In their recent flyer, the "Healthy Insider's Report-Eat Better and Love it," they offer this extraordinary product-breaded, fried, and frozen macaroni and cheese nuggets. Given that no child ever turned down regular macaroni and cheese, and that this costs five bucks a pound-enough money to feed six adults mac and cheese-plus, it requires freezing, how could this possibly be sold as a healthy alternative?
Perhaps the words to watch for are "no trans fats"-it could be palm oil or anything else, not necessarily healthy, or "lower in fats" like a lot of other products in the flyer, when one has no idea what that means and could still be extraordinarily high.
So when someone labels something green or says it is healthy, look past the graphics and read the ingredients, and eat like Michael Pollan whenever possible.
