Santa's Chocolate Cookies

Yield

Makes about 3 dozen cookies

Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) butter
2/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
Melted semisweet chocolate, chopped almonds, frosting, coconut or colored sprinkles (optional)

Preparation

  1. Combine butter and chocolate chips and butter in large microwavable bowl. Microwave on HIGH 30 seconds; stir. Repeat as necessary until chips are melted and mixture is smooth when stirred. Let cool slightly. Add sugar, egg and vanilla to chocolate mixture; stir until well blended. Add flour; stir until well blended. Cover; refrigerate 30 minutes or until firm.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Shape dough by tablespoonfuls into balls; place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. If desired, flatten balls with bottom of drinking glass.
  3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. Decorate as desired with melted chocolate, almonds, frosting, coconut or colored sprinkles.
