Yield

Makes about 2 dozen cookies

Ingredients

30 to 40 drops black food coloring
1 package (18 ounces) refrigerated sugar cookie dough
Skeleton or gingerbread man cookie cutters
1 tube white frosting

Preparation

  1. Knead food coloring into cookie dough on lightly floured surface, . Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 2 hours or until very firm.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll out dough on floured waxed paper to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut dough with cookie cutters. Bake 9 to 13 minutes or until edges are firm (centers will be somewhat soft). Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet; remove and cool completely on wire rack.
  3. Draw skeleton figures on cookies with frosting.

Note

The yield of this recipe is an approximation only and depends on the size of your cookie cutters and the thickness of the cookie dough.

Note

Cookies will appear a shade or two lighter after baking, so, while kneading in the black food coloring, add a few more drops of coloring after the desired shade has been reached.
