We all know what an eco-disaster that water bottles have become. Seriously, the United States sends two million tons of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottled water packaging to the landfill each year. That's a huge waste considering that bottled water costs $2,000 times that of tap water and we're in a recession. But a new study by the Environmental Working Group gives you an even bigger reason to skip it. The study found nearly 38 different contaminants in 10 brands of bottled water. Why in the world would anyone ever consider drinking it if it wasn't clean? Gross!

These contaminants include bacteria, acetaminophen, fertilizer, solvents, and plastic-making chemicals. See the thing is, tap water is regulated by the government and bottled water is not. The regulations put forth by The International Bottled Water Association are all voluntary and you know what that means, a big mess. Bottles don't even have to reveal how that water is bottled and where it comes from even if it is just bottled tap water. Since nearly 40 percent of bottled water is really tap water, it's important to get a filter or get your water refilled at the health foods store with reverse osmosis filtered water.
