Super Bowl Sunday is also the Super Bowl of snacking, according to research by the Calorie Control Council and the Snack Food Association. On the big game day, Americans will nosh on 11.2 million pounds of potato chips, 8.2 million pounds of tortilla chips, 4.3 million pounds of pretzels, 3.8 million pounds of popcorn, and 2.5 million pounds of nuts-that's 30 million pounds of snacks in total, sports fans.
Potato chips, the championship favorite of snacks, will account for 27 billion calories and 4 million pounds of fat nationwide, says the Council, or the equivalent of 13,000 National Football League offensive linemen at 300 pounds each.
