Tuna Monte Cristo Sandwich

Challah is a traditional Jewish yeast bread. It is rich with eggs and has an airy texture. Challah can be found in many forms, but the most common shape is braided.

Prep and Cook Time 20 minutes

Makes 2 servings

4 slices (1/2 ounce each) Cheddar cheese
4 oval slices sourdough or challah (egg) bread
1/2 pound deli tuna salad
1/4 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons butter

  1. Place 1 slice cheese on each of 2 bread slices. Spread tuna salad evenly over two slices of cheese. Top each with remaining cheese and bread slices.
  2. Combine milk and egg in shallow bowl; stir until well blended. Dip sandwiches in egg mixture, turning to coat well.
  3. Melt butter in large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add sandwiches; cook 4 to 5 minutes per side or until cheese melts and sandwiches are golden brown.
