Uncle Sam's Hat
Makes 1 large cookie
|1||package (18 ounces) refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough|
|2||cups powdered sugar|
|2||to 4 tablespoons milk|
|Red and blue food colorings|
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease 12-inch round pizza pan and cookie sheet. Remove dough from wrapper. Press dough evenly into prepared pizza pan. Cut dough into hat shape as shown in photo. Press scraps together and flatten heaping tablespoons of dough on prepared cookie sheet. Using 1-1/2- to 2-inch star cookie cutter, cut out 3 stars; remove and discard dough scraps.
- Bake stars 5 to 7 minutes and hat 7 to 9 minutes or until lightly browned at edges. Cool stars on cookie sheet 1 minute. Remove stars to wire rack; cool completely. Cool hat completely in pan on rack.
- Combine powdered sugar and enough milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, to make medium-thick pourable glaze. Spread small amount of glaze over stars and place on waxed paper; let stand until glaze is set. Using red and blue food colorings, tint 1/2 of glaze red, tint 1/4 of glaze blue and leave remaining 1/4 of glaze white.
- Decorate hat with red, white and blue glazes as shown in photo; arrange stars on blue band of hat. Let stand until glaze is set.
