Warm Spiced Apples and Pears

Ingredients:

tablespoons unsalted butter
1
vanilla bean
1
cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2
cup water
1/2
lemon, sliced and seeds removed
1
cinnamon stick, broken in half
1/2
teaspoon ground cloves
5
pears, quartered and cored
5
small Granny Smith apples, quartered and cored
Preparation:

Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat. Cut vanilla bean in half and scrape out seeds. Add seeds and pod to pan with brown sugar, water, lemon slices, cinnamon stick and cloves. Bring to a boil; cook and stir 1 minute. Remove from heat.

Place pears and apples in slow cooker; pour lemon syrup over fruit and mix well. Cover; cook on LOW 3-1/2 to 4 hours or on HIGH 2 hours. Stir apples and pears every 45 minutes to ensure even cooking.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve alone or with whipped cream, crème anglaise, sponge cake, pound cake or over ice cream. This also would pair well with baked ham, pork loin roast, or roast turkey.
