INGREDIENTS
| Dried apple slices | |
| Colored sugar | |
| 3/4 | cup water |
| 3/4 | cup granulated sugar |
| 1/2 | teaspoon ground ginger |
| 1/4 | teaspoon ground nutmeg |
| 1 | small cinnamon stick |
| 3 | whole cloves |
| 3 | whole allspice |
| 3 | coriander seeds |
| 3 | cardamom seeds (optional) |
| 3 | cups ale or wine |
| 2‑1/4 | cups dry sherry |
| 1/3 | cup cognac |

| Tiny cookie cutters | |
PREPARATION:
- Using tiny cookie cutters or sharp knife, cut dried apple slices into festive shapes; moisten with water and coat with colored sugar. Set aside.
- Combine 3/4 cup water, granulated sugar and spices in large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Cover; reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
- Stir in ale, sherry and cognac; heat just to simmering. Do not boil. Strain into heatproof pitcher or punch bowl. Float apple slices in punch.
