Wassail Bowl
Yield: Makes 12 servings (about 4 ounces each)
Sugared apple shapes float atop this classic spiced punch to give it a pretty look.
Ingredients:
Dried apple slices
Colored sugar

cup water
3/4
cup granulated sugar
1/2
teaspoon ground ginger
1/4
teaspoon ground nutmeg
1
small cinnamon stick
3
whole cloves
3
whole allspice
3
coriander seeds
3
cardamom seeds (optional)
3
cups ale or wine
2-1/4
cups dry sherry
1/3
cup cognac
Tiny cookie cutters
Preparation:
1.
Using tiny cookie cutters or sharp knife, cut dried apple slices into festive shapes; moisten with water and coat with colored sugar. Set aside.
2.
Combine 3/4 cup water, granulated sugar and spices in large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Cover; reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
3.
Stir in ale, sherry and cognac; heat just to simmering. Do not boil. Strain into heatproof pitcher or punch bowl. Float apple slices in punch.
