Makes 12 servings (about 4 ounces each)
|Dried apple slices|
|3/4||cup granulated sugar|
|1/2||teaspoon ground ginger|
|1/4||teaspoon ground nutmeg|
|1||small cinnamon stick|
|3||cardamom seeds (optional)|
|3||cups ale or wine|
|2-1/4||cups dry sherry|
|Tiny cookie cutters|
- Using tiny cookie cutters or sharp knife, cut dried apple slices into festive shapes; moisten with water and coat with colored sugar. Set aside.
- Combine 3/4 cup water, granulated sugar and spices in large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Cover; reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
- Stir in ale, sherry and cognac; heat just to simmering. Do not boil. Strain into heatproof pitcher or punch bowl. Float apple slices in punch.
