Texas is suffering in one of the worst droughts in recorded history, a drought that undoubtedly makes water even more of a necessity. But residents of the small Texas town of Kemp are learning that water isn't something to be taken for granted. The drought added undue stress to Kemp's aging water line pipes, according to CBS Local, causing an uncomfortable situation for residents.

"You don't really appreciate water until it's gone," said one Kemp resident.

Upwards of 14 water line breaks have caused the mayor to shut off water in order to do repairs to the system and refill depleted water towers. In all, Kemp has lost 2 million gallons of water as a result of the breaks.

Thankfully, water needs are being taken care of at a water station in the center of town, providing drinking water and water to refill toilets.

Untold Drought Aftermath

Even beyond this latest issue, Texas has been hit hard by this drought for months now. Drought and high temperatures are making life difficult for farmers and ranchers as well. Several cattle in Texas have died from drinking too much water. They're overly thirsty as a result of a lack of rain and high temperatures so some drink so much water they die. The drought is also impacting cattle herds and sending grain and meat prices sky high.

The depth of this drought is causing more problems than we ever could have foreseen. From water line breaks to dead cattle and high wheat prices, it's a wonder what other repercussions are to come. One thing is for sure--communities like Kemp are learning that water is a precious resource that shouldn't be taken for granted.
