Global Wristband Project

From my perspective karma yoga, a tenet of yoga focused on selfless service, is one of the most important aspects of the practice. In my time on the mat I've learned that the more we do for others, the more we are able to find peace and joy off the mat.
Yogis believe that we are all connected and for that reason, we should do everything we can to help all living beings. That's why organizations like Off the Mat, Into the World are so important. The organization teaches yogis to be a positive influence within their communities as well as giving back whenever possible.
One of their latest fundraisers is called the Global Wristband Project. Yogi Christina Sabatini organized the fundraiser, which sells bracelets and anklets made from recycled materials. The fundraiser actually supports two causes because the wristbands are initially purchased from a small nonprofit in Phang Nga, Thailand, which serves those displaced after the 2004 tsunami, and then the additional profits go toward Global Seva Challenge 2010: South Africa.
The wristbands are made of a weaving method called saori, which, according to Sabatini, was used as a type of therapy to help heal and explore creativity to those affected by the 2004 tsunami. The purchase of every 6 wristbands is equaled to a days worth of meals for one tsunami relief family living in Phang Nga.
Additional profits go to providing a sustainable living in communities affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Africa. Sabatini has partnered with a number of organizations including Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), Linawo Children's Home, Earthchild Project, South African Whole Grain Bread Project, and GOLD (Generation Of Leaders Discovered). Each wristband is just $12 so go online and make a difference.
