Old-Fashioned Caramel Apples the Editors of Publications International, Ltd.
Makes 6 servings
|1||package (14 ounces) caramels|
|6||wooden craft sticks|
|6||medium Granny Smith apples|
|Chopped toasted pecans, walnuts or roasted peanuts|
- Place caramels and water in medium heavy saucepan. Cook, stirring frequently, over medium-low heat until melted and very hot.
- Insert stick into stem end of each apple. Place nuts in shallow bowl and jimmies in another shallow bowl. Dip apple into caramel, tilting saucepan until apple is coated; let excess caramel drip back into saucepan. Remove excess caramel by scraping bottom of apple across rim of saucepan. Immediately roll apple in pecans and/or sprinkles. Place, stick side up, on baking sheet lined with waxed paper. Repeat with remaining apples. Rewarm caramel, if needed. Refrigerate at least 10 minutes or until caramel is firm.
