Orange-Spiced Sweet Potatoes

Orange-Spiced Sweet Potatoes


Makes 8 (1/2-cup) servings


2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup butter (1 stick), cut into small pieces
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel
Juice of 1 medium orange
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
Chopped toasted pecans (optional)


  1. Place all ingredients in slow cooker, except pecans. Cover; cook on LOW 4 hours or on HIGH 2 hours or until potatoes are tender. Sprinkle with pecans before serving.


Mash sweet potatoes with a hand masher or electric mixer; add 1/4 cup milk or whipping cream for a moister consistency. Sprinkle with a mixture of sugar and ground cinnamon.
